Kensington
Of all the Washington DC suburbs in Montgomery County, Kensington is one of the least populated. Of course, this adds quite a bit of charm to the community. There is much more than charm here. Kensington, being a town built around the old B&O Railroad line, is rich with history too.
When it comes to a small town though, people think that there are fewer things that appeal to people. As far as Kensington goes though, nothing could be further from the truth. As a matter of fact, it has plenty to offer to residents of every demographic.
Young Families
There are few places in Montgomery County that are better to raise a family in then Kensington. With nearly everything in walking distance, it fosters community spirit. Parks and trails are everywhere, encouraging lots of outside play for kids and adults.
The Middle-Age Professional
There are plenty of middle-aged people relocating to the area for work. They are well-established and firmly grounded. With Kensington being close enough to the urban, industry-rich areas of Montgomery County, yet secluded enough to be an escape from the stresses of the office. It’s a perfect match of small-town charm with urban-accessible perks.
Retiree
What better place to rest from years of work than a lovely town reminiscent of Andy Griffith’s Mayberry? Local delis and coffee shops dot the down. Libraries and community centers remain accessible throughout much of the year. It’s also worth mentioning that Kensington has quite many parades and festivals like the 4th of July Bike Parade, the Day of the Book, and the annual Labor Day Parade. You can feel a part of the community by attending or help build the community by volunteering.
The thing to remember is to not let the small town deter you from looking into it. Quite the contrary. You have every reason to give it serious consideration. No matter who you are, where you come from, or what your current situation is, your roots can be planted firmly in Kensington.
